Things you might want to know about Virgo
Virgos are a mutable earth sign and the sixth sign of the zodiac. They come after Leo and have inherited their big heart but also learned about the trappings of the ego. In almost all cases, a Virgo would rather talk about you than themselves. This is most obvious when it comes to feelings. They hate talking about their own. That’s because it’s actually all they think about, but they view feelings as uncontrollable, minefields of desire. They like systems, logic, and problem-solving. Feelings are an area where those things obviously don’t work. Virgos are also the kind of people who can make it through the day with a bullet in them if they had to. They don’t do much complaining. They’re enduring, almost to a fault.
What drives a Virgo? Keeping things going. Keeping the world functioning. Virgos are often committed to something larger than themselves and achieve self-worth from being needed. They love sustaining things. Gardens, people, long-lost languages. They’re the ones who know exactly what organic remedy to try and which herb will heal you. Their help is not self-serving either. They offer a specific type of kindness: personal, involved, and far-reaching. Even if they’re mostly stoic, there’s plenty of empathy behind that stoicism.
All this can be hard to see at first. If you have Virgos in your life, you know they often come off as harsh. Their criticism is usually phrased in the form of a question, one that’s passive-aggressive and usually bringing up the past. Something you may no longer remember or think would bother them at all. Virgos hold on to things. They have a great memory and can keep grudges, which they view as practical and protective rather than mean-spirited. They’re also incredibly precise. Their own precision holds them hostage and they’re aware they can be read as overwhelming, which they try to make up for by being self-deprecating.
The Virgo surface is polished and brilliant. If you compare yourself to them, it’s intimidating. The standards Virgos hold themselves to are impossible. It depresses me to see their schedules, houses, and color-coded dry-cleaned lives. You should know they don’t expect anyone else to live like this. In fact, they’re mostly ready to be disappointed by others. For those of us who are far from perfect (everyone except the Leos about to look in a mirror after they finish this sentence), this is good news. But it weighs heavy on Virgos that they are constantly performing at a level no one can match. They’re prone to feeling used or taken advantage of. From their friends, they tolerate mistakes they’d never make themselves. Blowing off plans (air signs), showing up late (fire signs), not being able to leave the house without a scheduled therapy appointment (water signs). And even a Capricorn or Taurus can let Virgos down with how brusque they can be (Virgos are not that kind of earth sign).
Personally, I’m always about ten minutes late. This tends to work in a city like New York, where everyone runs behind.
