Always offer your hand first and invariably the other person will take it. Your elbow should be tucked into your waist when you shake hands and not outstretched. The handshake is a fairly universal greeting but if you are working with customers from different cultures please be aware that this might not be their normal form of greeting. A nod and smile should suffice.

Personal Space

#xa0;

Personal space is the space around us that we feel comfortable in. We only allow those close to us to invade that space. If others do invade, uninvited, then we feel threatened by it and wish to step back. Make sure you are not invading your customers’ personal space. Different cultures have different distances so be aware of this. British people are usually comfortable at a distance of about three feet.
