We get back to my cabin, the three of us—safe, and sound, and home.

My blood is pounding like mad after that experience. I’ve got nothing against licensed hunters who follow the rules, keeping the hell off private property and away from protected animals. Just thinking about what almost happened right outside my home, with Leah here no less, has me seeing red.

I give Tuck one more tight yet gentle squeeze and a kiss on the nose before putting her down. “Don’t you ever run off like that again,” I gently admonish her. She’s not a wild animal, hasn’t been since she was a month or two old.

She’s family.

Tuck darts off to my bedroom and leaps into bed, snuggling against the soft pillows. I slowly shake my head and wheel around, and my blood starts pumping for entirely different reasons.

“You were incredible,” Leah says, her cheeks ruddy as she gazes up at me, wide-eyed and admiring.

“That could’ve gone a lot worse,” I state the obvious. “You were very brave.” I smile. “Thanks for holding onto Tuck.”

“I think she was holding onto me,” Leah says, mirroring my grin. Hers is a lot prettier of course. My mouth waters just looking at her creamy soft skin and those lips I want to be kissing again.

Her face changes into a question. “So you just…let him go?”

“For now. I’ll radio Callum, one of the rangers,” I say as I move closer to her, “tell him to keep an eye out for an unruly lone hunter.”

“That sounds like a smart idea,” whispers Leah. Putting my hands on her waist, I pull her in with a low grunt. She lets out a cute, surprised giggle. “Aren’t you going to do that now? Call Callum?”

“No.” I kiss the top of her head, then trail more kisses down the sides of her angelic face and the slope of her neck. Leah tips her head back with a sultry sigh, making my erection reach for her. Everything about this woman makes me want her, makes me crazy for her.

“In the morning,” I husk out. “I’ll call in the morning. That asshat won’t be tryin’ any new stunts tonight, I guarantee it.”

“Mmm,” Leah moans breathily as I pepper kisses up and down her smooth, beautiful neck. “That’s…good.”

“Let’s talk about something else, sweetheart.”

“Like…what?” she simpers.

“Like you and me,” I say against the shell of her ear, “finishing what we started.”

“Yes, please.”
