I turned off all the electric lights throughout the house and made sure that the music I had playing was only coming from the wind-up gramophone. I'd spent an entire day trying to track down voices during the construction phase and finally found a small radio tuned to NPR, left behind in one of the bathrooms. The pipes and the ductwork had sent the endless talking to the kitchen, and it took me about three hours to convince the man installing my gas range that the place really, really wasn't haunted.

There had been a petition to remove me from the house during working hours while some of the tile was being laid. Apparently the out of town workers weren't comfortable with my fangs. I tried to pay them to talk to Scotty on my behalf, but they wouldn't, damn them.
