“Olaf!” Elsa called out. She wanted to tell him to stand still until the workers could help him.
Olaf smiled back at them and waved cheerfully. Then he got right back to work. He didn’t seem to understand why she was calling to him. He gave the next ice block a hearty shove. But instead of the ice block sliding away, Olaf started to slide in the other direction.
Elsa and Anna tried to run after him, but Anna slipped on the ice. She grabbed Elsa’s arm as she slid toward Olaf.
The three of them crashed into a tall pile of ice, sending the blocks tumbling this way and that. The huge pieces fell down around them. Many cracked and split open against the frozen lake. Olaf was surrounded by big chunks of crunchy ice.
When the frost cleared, the ice harvesters were staring in shock. This was the second time today that their visitors had ruined the harvest.
Elsa looked out at the broken ice spread across the lake. She felt bad. It would take the workers days to make up the harvest, but if she used her powers, she could fix everything in moments. After all, ice was her specialty.
“Maybe I can help,” Elsa said. She motioned for everyone to stand back.
Elsa raised her arms and summoned her magical powers. An icy wind swirled around her and ruffled her hair. She extended her hands into the frosty gale and then knelt to touch the surface of the lake.
The lake rumbled at Elsa’s touch. The rumbling spread outward from beneath her fingers to the center of the lake. There, the ice began to split apart. But instead of cracking randomly, it split into perfect cubes.
The ice harvesters watched in wonder. They’d never seen anything like this before. The ice blocks slowly came out of the water as a new surface of ice rose underneath them. It looked as though the ice was moving all by itself—but it was Elsa’s magic.
