Chapter Thirteen

I have decided to stick with love.

Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Martin Luther King Jr.

No more loud, nagging voices, niggling doubts, and rampant guilt: enough was enough. It was the late 1990s and I was ready to live my life and live it to the full and let go of fear, pain, and hurt; I was determined to finally put my past behind me. In my morning meditations I asked my beloved Jack and my Angels to guide me to be kinder, more patient, and more tolerant with others and myself. I prayed for peace in my mind, in my heart, and in my spirit.

To help others and myself I knew I had to find this peace within myself, which is the source of the Divine, the God with-in us. I also asked them to guide all the people I needed to meet, to bring me to this inner peace so that I, in return, could bring healing to others. I still had to get used to having Jack around. Sometimes I’d jump when I saw him, but gradually I got used to his comforting energy and felt an extra layer of protection knowing I had a Guide as well as my beloved Angels.

Some months later on a cold, bright winter’s afternoon, Mam had gone for, as she put it, “her forty winks.” My sister Rosaleen and I had a cup of tea and we got chatting about Angels. Rosaleen had known for some time that I was interested in them, but she didn’t really know that I could see them. She too was curious about the spiritual world and had encouraged me to go on courses to learn as much as I could. She had just started an Angel course herself, and attended classes each week in the local school. Rosaleen was perceptive and had a good soul, and she found the classes both exciting and relaxing.

She told me of the Angels she was learning about, and described the lady who gave the classes. Everything she told me reaffirmed what my own Angels were telling me. So, when I told her about my experiences with them, and how I could see and talk with them, she was not at all surprised.

“You were always a little bit different, always helping people. And you’re always there for the family,” she said.

I was delighted with her response because it put me at ease and it felt good to have a family member to talk these things over with.

I envied her having the chance to attend the classes, but as they were held in the mornings and I had to go to work, I didn’t have the opportunity to go. The good news was that the lady running the classes was about to give a one-day workshop and Rosaleen had already booked me a place on it. She thought it would do me good and help me relax, as she felt I was a bit stressed out.

I was eager to do it.
