Hey. I know we said this evening,

but can I come see you now?

I responded with the address to my job at a desperately fast speed. After all of the unpleasantness with Azalea, Allium was just what I needed to pick up my day.

Trying to figure out how to navigate how convoluted things were between Corinne, London, and their families was a chore. It didn’t matter which solution I came up with, I found myself at a dead-end problem. I could come clean to London about who I was, but what if his attraction was to the name alone? It was a plus that he seemed to be attracted to the woman he thought was Allium, but if he found out I wasn’t her, he could just as easily find himself veering towards Corinne. We looked similar, and she was the true Allium. He could flip in an instant, and with Corinne still having her lingering feelings, however dramaticized from her childhood, it could result in them getting together and me losing both my best friend and the only guy to ever make me feel as electrified as London did.

I could continue pretending to be Allium and hope that London never figured it out, but that was already a fraying cord. It was one thing when I was just going to make a couple of public appearances, sign some paperwork, and say goodbye to the Zefrinks forever, but dating London was a massive kink in that plan. Casey had figured it out in a matter of hours. There was no telling when someone else may realize it too. If it was London, or worse, Azalea, not only would it blow our cover, but everyone from me to Corinne’s parents could get in serious trouble.

I’d even considered branching a lie off of my existing lie. I could tell London that I really did believe what was said to me when I was told I was the missing Zefrink heiress, but that I’ve learned I’m not her and have no idea where she is. That plan would take the heat off both Corinne and I, but what if London continued longing for the real Allium? We’d maybe stay together, but it wouldn’t stop him from wondering ‘what if’ with the real Allium. There were no good answers.

“Miss?” I shook myself free of my thoughts at the sound of my name. I glanced up into the rearview mirror of the rideshare I was in and the driver looked back at me with a smile. “We’re here. The Hayden Corporation’s headquarters.”

I looked out the window and my lips parted in amazement. It was a huge skyscraper that had to have a hundred or more floors. People were funneling in and out the several doors in the front of the building, all in fancy suits, and with a sense of urgency.

“Thank you,” I responded. I pulled out my phone and started to navigate to the app, but the driver reached back over the seat.
