Chapter Ten
They headed home after closing up, and after changing into more comfortable clothes, they met in the kitchen to have a snack before dinner was ready.
Cheryl had changed into her loose-fitting shorts and top designed for lounging. It was late and she figured theyâd all be ready for bed after having a late dinner.
Rex had cooked up something that smelled delicious. She neared the bar in the kitchen and saw several plates of food spread out. One plate held stuffed mushrooms, another was filled with deep-fried veggies, and a third contained slices of pizza.
This looks delicious,â she said.
âHave a seat and dig in,â Rex said. âSoda, beer, or wine?â
âHmm, I think wine would be perfect.â
He poured a glass and set it before her at the bar. She scooted onto a stool and grabbed a plate to fill.
âLooks scrumptious,â Austin said behind her.
She hadnât heard him come in. She turned and smiled at him. He curved his hands around her waist and leaning down gave her a quick kiss. He moved to sit down beside her and filled a plate with food from the platters Rex had prepared.
She smiled at Austin again and he smiled back.
âRex and I have been thinking that Troy and Doug would be good guys to fix up that home for street kids you want to establish. If that sounds good to you, we can give them a call and arrange for you to talk with them about your plans.â
âOh, my gosh. That would be great. Iâm confident in their ability if you are. When do you think would be a good time for me to meet with them?â
âHow about tomorrow morning at the dance hall?â Rex asked. âYou can talk to them in the office.â
âIf itâs all right with you, Iâd like to sit in on your meeting with them to get an idea of what youâre looking at money wise,â Austin said.
âThat sounds fine. As long as you donât start another fight.â She smiled at Austin.
âI promise,â he said, and smiled back.
Rex sat down with them and they all three enjoyed every last bite.
Cheryl finished her wine just as Rex took a tray of cherries and strawberries out of the fridge. He placed it on the counter and picked up a creamer, setting it near the tray.
âDo I smell chocolate and strawberries?â Austin asked as he put their dishes in the dishwasher.
âYes, you do,â Rex affirmed. He sat on the stool next to Cheryl. âHelp yourself, hon.â
âIt looks and smells wonderful. I canât think of anything better.â She looked up at Austin and she could see that his eyes glittered with a hunger for something else. It was obvious he was interested in sex before dinner was ready. She had a good idea where this was going.
âTry this.â Rex held out a chocolate-covered cherry.
She parted her lips and he slipped it between and into her mouth. It was delicious with a hint of some liquor in the chocolate. When she finished munching on that, Rex offered her a chocolate-covered strawberry.
