Nova

My wolf ripped from my body for the third time that day. My bones cracked and stretched, sharp teeth pulling through gums as I landed on my four wide paws, facing the sleek honey colored wolf that Peyton had become.

My wolf snarled, Peyton's heaving even as she faced me down. I wish she would breathe a little slower, if only to slow down her heart rate. The smell of her blood was nearly unbearable now that I was in my wolf form. I wanted it, I wanted to bite her. Taste her. Although not as much as I did with Greyson’s blood but seeing as he was currently tucked behind glass, Peyton would be a good second choice.

Damn it! I can’t think like this! I needed to focus. I had been able to fight it all day, but it was getting harder.

Damn vampire wolf.

Greyson had given us a ten minute break after our first two fights, but I could already tell that it wouldn't be enough. Peyton was quick, thank god, but I had still been able to get a good swipe of her hind paw in. From the way she was standing on it, it was clear that it was hurting. That would slow her down. With how ruthless my wolf had been; or how ruthless Greyson had made me, that was bad.

Greyson was a cruel master, and no matter how hard I had tried I hadn't been able to fight him. He played with my wolf like a puppet on a string.

My vision went black around the edges as the low snarl of my wolf took over, the feral beast kowtowing to Greyson as he snarled something from the high booth. I fought it, pressing my mind against my wolf as I refused to bow down. She snarled, although I wasn't sure the sound was from me as Greyson's low voice echoed through the crackling speakers.

"Place your bets, this is the last round of the day." I would have breathed a sigh of relief, if my wolf wasn't so hell bent on destroying Peyton.

Scratch that. She wasn't hell bent on it. But she was a vampire, and I guess vampire children bent to the control of their masters. Hiss had said something about that earlier and I was starting to realize how deep that control went. I was really regretting not having learned anything about vampires before this.

"Nova," Greyson continued as the stands rained with catcalls and placed bets. "I want this finished. I want her finished." My wolf kicked it up a notch, my vision fuzzing as she snarled and pawed at the mud.

NO. Fight it!

I didn't know if I was talking to myself, or to my wolf, but it didn't matter. I wasn't going to let this happen. I pushed my way past my ever darkening vision, forcing myself to be present even as my wolf took control. I could barely see Peyton as she limped once to the side in preparation.

"Fight!" Greyson's command was a battering ram.
