They all agreed and knelt down to pray. As Preston began to lead them in prayer, Alli heard the sound of the rock being shifted from the dirt. The three looked over and saw Doubting Tommy trying to lift the rock. They prayed more intensely for him as he struggled with the heavy weight. The boy felt encouraged by their prayers and he thought of Ephesians 6:10 “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” The burden suddenly seemed lighter than before. Slowly, the large stone shifted position and was lifted from its place. A small geyser of water came up from underneath and started filling the well. A cheer from above erupted, as the helpers who arrived saw the wonderful change that had taken place in Doubting Tommy, and also because of the water he had found.

Alli, Preston, Thurston, and Tommy climbed out of the well. Everyone shook Tommy’s hand and patted him on the back.

“Thank you, Tommy!” Alli smiled. “I was hoping you’d overcome your doubt.”

“I had many doubts,” he replied, “but I saw how much you believed, and I knew God had brought me here for a reason too!”

“God gave each one of us a purpose, Tommy. One should never doubt that!” Thurston stated.

“Do I have a purpose?” came a familiar voice from behind Thurston’s bucket.

Teller, the tattlesnake, slithered out into view.

“Why, yes, Teller,” Alli replied, stooping down and patting his head. “If you hadn’t let everyone know, this well would not have been done in time. If you hadn’t invited Tommy to come see, the rock would still be there, with no one to lift it out.”

“We just wish it could have been a surprise for the farmers,” added Preston.

“Oh, I didn’t tell everybody,” replied Teller, “only the ones here who came to help.”

“Then why did you take off so fast?” Alli asked the tattlesnake.

Teller blinked a couple of times and admitted “I got so excited about what you were doing that I sped off as fast as I could to find help!”

Preston knelt down in the dirt next to the tattlesnake, not even caring that his knees would get dirty. “What you did was wonderful! I’m glad you helped with our mission to ease the burdens of the farmers.”

“We’re all glad,” came a voice from behind Alli. It was her mother, who had returned with her father from the castle’s market. “This is a wonderful surprise!”

Alli hugged both of her parents, and then introduced them to all of her new friends. “I wish I could repay you all for the help you’ve given today.”

“All is well,” stated Tommy, placing his hand over his heart. “You’ve told us wonderful stories from the Bible; which, refreshed us, and restored my doubting heart.”

Thurston agreed, and asked if he could hear more stories. So everyone gathered around Alli and her parents, enjoying the shade of the big Psalm tree, drinking fresh water, and listening to stories from the well that never runs dry, God’s Word.
