Helen studied during all of her free time in order to keep her grades up, but she regretted not having friends to socialize with.

Chapter 9

Becoming a Writer

Helen was actually very good at typing, even better than Anne.

Helen’s professors helped her learn to write well. So well, in fact, that she thought she might like to write a book of her own. A popular women’s magazine called the Ladies’ Home Journal paid Helen to write a history of her own life for their readers in multiple articles. Helen got help from an editor named John Macy. John was smart, young, and good-looking, and caught Anne Sullivan’s eye while he helped write Helen’s stories for the magazine. In 1903, the magazine stories were published together in a book titled The Story of My Life.
