Length Contraction

To further explain how skewing works, a discussion of length contraction is in order. The speed of an object will determine the amount of length contraction. Therefore, an observer would see the object diminished in size according to the percentage of the speed of light it is traveling. Likewise, it will have a similar effect on how a stationary observer views the lengthy of a passing object. That observer traveling with it will not experience the same contraction observation.

Time can also be altered with differing frames of motion. Known as time dilation, this only becomes obvious as the speed approaches that of light. Once a speed actually reaches that of light, time stops. As with length contraction, time dilation is visible only to the observer not traveling with the moving object. For instance, a clock in motion would not reflect the slowing of time. Since the typical movements on Earth never come close to that of light, this phenomenon is not noticeable by regular observatory methods.
