Elsa died from heart and kidney problems in 1936.

After Elsa died, Einstein received marriage proposals from numerous women. But even while Elsa was alive, Einstein had relationships with a number of women. One of them was a Russian spy. More on her later.

Einstein’s kids

Albert Einstein had three children with his first wife . . .

Hans Albert Einstein was born in 1904. When he told his dad that he wanted to become an engineer, Einstein replied, “I think it’s a disgusting idea.” Hans Albert did it anyway and became a respected expert in hydraulics.

Father and son had an on-and-off relationship for many years, but became close as Einstein got older. Hans Albert died in 1973. He had two sons and five grandchildren, so there are some great-grandchildren of Albert Einstein’s running around today.

Eduard Einstein was born in 1910. He played piano, enjoyed poetry, and studied medicine in college. But most of his life he was sick, both physically and mentally. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent years in what used to be called an insane asylum. He died in 1965.
