Lesson Nineteen

IN QUEST OF THE UNKNOWN

The whole of the Christian World is today commemorating the Crucifixion, the final act in one of the greatest tragedies for Humanity that ever took place on this Planet. Is it any wonder that we feel tonight a greater pressure than usual because there are many millions who still follow the Teachings of Jesus and give due respect to the Teacher.

For all that Jesus tried to do, the reward was a crown of thorns on His head, four nails in His hands and feet, a thrust of a spear in His side, a drink of bitter gall on a sponge, and a mockery as a song in His last dying moments. That was the reward He received from Humanity.

There was that betrayal, that lack of gratitude to one who was all gratitude to his Father for being permitted to come to this World to help Humanity. Mentally and morally He died on the Cross but probably not physically.

That was a great tragedy which we not only commemorate, but for which we pay a great price today. The Jews were once one of the great Nations on Earth. They had a well developed civilization, one of the most outstanding rulers, King Solomon, and they produced more prophets than any other Nation. Now, for about twenty centuries, they have been the most downtrodden and despised race. Some individuals among them have been much better than the so-called Gentiles, but collectively there is a curse on them.

Why are they despised? Pilot gave them three chances to vote for freedom for Jesus. He then said, “I wash my hands.” The people whom Jesus healed, fed, who shouted “Hosanna, Son of David,” and who spread palms on his path, became his worst enemies because there was no gratitude in their hearts. They said, “Let His blood be on us and our children.” This curse has now lasted for twenty centuries. They put into operation a Law, and they must live through that Law. Probably every one of them are living now on this Planet. Perhaps some of us present here tonight are those people. We do not know. It shows what a terrible price we pay for words which we sometimes do not understand when we utter them, and especially for ingratitude. We should be grateful, especially if we get a little good in a world of so much evil .

Present day conditions show that there is an unbelievable amount of ingratitude which we have not acknowledged. If all of this were exposed, probably one-half of the people in the United States would be in prison for misdeeds. Yet we think we are doing the right things.

I realize that THE LIGHTBEARERS have forgotten the Guiding Power of Love. We wanted everything strong mentally and scientific. What do we know of science? That is why it is so difficult to find Right. We must be guided by the only Power that can show us Right, by Love, a deep, wide, unassuming feeling which is the foundation of Harmony throughout the whole Universe.
