I pace back and forth through the lobby like a woman possessed. My conference, which adjourned seventeen minutes ago, went okay. I spent too much time drifting out of the conversation and thinking about damned Carter Fox.

"Ma'am, Mr. Fox will be with you shortly," the woman from the front desk reassures me.

"Thank you." I'm not thankful, I'm pissed.

I went back to my room last night flustered as all get out. After the older, gorgeous Carter Fox laid his lips on mine and I stormed back to my room in a flurry, I had all night to toss and turn in bed and think about him.

Sure enough, whenever I was awake, my thoughts were laced with him.

And whenever I closed my eyes and drifted back to sleep, he infiltrated my dreams. That cocky smile he sent me off with was the devil. It was haunting me.

"Miss Mitchell," Carter greets, "what a pleasure." Today he wears a red, cotton shirt tucked into similar khaki pants. The same smile from last night is back. He wears it like we share a secret, but all it does is bring a blush to my cheeks.

I grab him by the arm and pull him away from the flow of traffic. "You need to take back what you did last night and you need to apologize for it.

Right now."

He frowns as if he doesn't know what I'm talking about. "Hm, I'm not sure I know what you mean." Carter scrunches up his face and shakes his head. "Want to explain?"

I do not, in fact, wish to explain. "You know damn well what I mean," I hiss at him angrily.

Carter crosses his arms and looks me up and down. "You look well-dressed, Miss Mitchell. What are you visiting Coral Bay for? I don't think I asked."

I look down at the conservative business dress that I have on. It's black in color and doesn't suit my figure, which was intentional because I didn't want anyone at the conference to think I was trying to pick up at a man.

"I'm here for a conference being hosted by the hotel."

His face perks up upon hearing this. "You attended the Trauma Recovery Summit?"

If he doesn't stop changing the subject, I'm going to have to smack him.

"Yes," I sigh in frustration, "I did. I'm a trauma therapist. Though I'm beginning to think I'm not a very good one because I can't seem to talk myself off a ledge after last night's unfortunate run-in."

"Now you're just being dramatic," Carter says with a roll of his eyes.

"You look too young to be a therapist. How old are you?"

"How long have you been waiting to ask me that question?" I shoot back at him. To be fair, I've been dying to ask how old he is as well. The oldest man I've ever been with was a grand total of five years older than me.

Oh, and three months.

Carter starts walking toward an empty hallway, gesturing for me to follow him. "Fewer people to overhear our conversation," he says as we walk away from tourists and staff members.
