YOUR SPECTACULARLY AWESOME ELEVATOR SPEECH
It is critical that you have a well-rehearsed elevator speech. It must be a clear and concise introduction and overview of your unique selling proposition. Wait, I hear you saying, but Iâm not a salesperson. I hate selling. Unfortunately, the interview process is definitely a major sale because the product is YOU! Taking a more strategic approach will help you refine your responses to impress your interviewer. The more you can connect with your interviewers on an emotional level, the better your chances are they will ultimately buy your product and choose you as the best candidate.
To do this, create a unique tag line, a selling point that will make you more memorable than your competition. But, be careful you donât make the mistake of regurgitating your entire life story. Stick to what is relevant to your future employer. Too often I have seen job candidates spew everything to the interviewer and not give them an opportunity for follow-up. You want to leave them interested and allow them the opportunity to ask follow-up questions. Stick to communicating your major career milestones and accomplishments.
