Chapter 10 - Assistant

Damien hoped that things between him and Lincoln would’ve change following what happened on their trip to Charlotte, but it seemed as if things had gotten worse. Lincoln was a lot more open about his dislike of Damien and Zyan’s relationship, no matter if it was platonic or romantic. Damien’s role of training Zyan was passed onto somebody else and he rarely saw Zyan at work anymore. It was hard to hang out with Zyan outside of work now with Max on break from school and constantly around.

Damien was expecting to clock-out and go home directly after his shift but found himself in Lincoln’s office.

Damien sat down at Lincoln’s desk, “Hey man, what is it?”

Lincoln sat back in his chair, “So, are you still with Zyan?”

“I’m not with him, get over it. He’s my friend, we have fun together. Stop with the envy shit dude.”

Lincoln laughed, “You think I’m jealous? Of that street rat? Nah, come on.”

“Well, obviously you want me. Don’t pretend I didn’t fuck you.”

“You did and I regret it. It was a moment of weakness for me. It’s been awhile since I’ve tried a guy. And after our little time together, I still prefer woman. So, please don’t sit here thinking I’m secretly lusting after you. I’m just tired of idiots like Zyan giving black men a bad name. Black children don’t look up to black intellectuals like me, but instead of rappers and low lives like Zyan. Even you have fallen for it.”

“Zyan is cool because he’s real; he doesn’t walk around talking down to people.”

Lincoln’s desk phone rang. “Give me a minute.” Lincoln answered the phone and his face lit up with a smile as he kept on nodding. Half way into the call that smile started to fade and Lincoln’s face dropped. “Alright Bob, thanks for the call. I’ll be sure to share the news. I look forward to hearing from you again.” Lincoln hung up the phone.

“Was that Bob as in the district manager?” Damien asked.

Lincoln nodded. “Yeah.”

“What did he want?”

“He was calling to let me know that you officially fucked me.”

Damien eyes widened, “Why would Bob know about that?”

“Not in that way. Damien, I didn’t get any of the manager positions in Charlotte. And I’m sure your little conversation with Bob had something to do with that.” A tear streamed down Lincoln’s face, “I fucking hate you. I can’t even believe I let you put your dick in me. I want to fire you. But I can’t.”

Damien shrugged, “Why? What do you mean?”

Lincoln stalled and revealed, “Because Bob has made you my official co-manager.”

Damien wanted to laugh; he was free from Lincoln’s control. But at the same time he understood Lincoln’s dream had just been crush and he was most likely responsible. Instead of showing any sign of excitement, he got up and left Lincoln alone. The moment he was out the store, Damien finally released his smile. He immediately wanted to share the news with one of the most important men in his life, Zyan.
