Chapter Ten

Christoph heard the scream the second he exited his black Porsche Cayman and took off at sonic speed for the front door of Fangri-La. Once inside, he zeroed in on the bursts of fire that shot from a flying purple flame thrower. Bambi hiccupped and the force of it threw her backward across the room. Thankfully, she was on the wing and able to stop herself from crashing into the wall. Glancing around, nothing looked scorched, but he wondered where the scream had come from. He was certain it had been Sabrina he’d heard, but there was no one in sight. His vampire senses indicated that Jonas, Sabrina, and Hazel were all in the house. Right now, he had to focus on Bambi as she shot out another burst of flames.

“Quick, grab a bucket of water,” Sabrina yelled as she ran into the room. She screeched to a halt when her surprised gaze met his own.

“Are you all right?”

“I’m in one piece.”

“I heard you scream.” His gaze narrowed. “Why do you look funny?” Thankfully, Bambi had landed, and it seemed her hiccups had subsided. For the moment, anyway.

“Look funny? You mean as in surprised?” She jabbed her hands on her hips and stared him down.

“Well, yes.”

“I’ll tell you why I look funny. This purple flying jellybean singed my eyebrows. Hazel, in her attempt to help, drew on a new pair of brows for me––”

“Ah, that explains––”

She held up her hand. “Oh I’m not finished yet. I now understand why Satan tossed her ass out of Hell.” She pointed at her brows. “These babies are drawn on with permanent marker. I will look surprised for the rest of my vampire life.”

“Marker?”

“Yes. First lesson will be to teach a succubus the difference between an appropriate brow pencil and a fucking marker. Look at me. I can’t even raise a brow at this insanity.”

Just then, an earsplitting caterwauling ensued, and Sabrina slapped her hands over both ears. “What in the name of Satan is that noise?”

“Bambi is upset.” He plopped down on the floor next to the crying dragon. “Come here, sweetheart.” He held out his arms and scooped the small creature into his lap. “She is a bit sensitive.”

“Oh dear.” Sabrina crossed the room and sat down next to him. “Please don’t cry, my little jellybean. I’m not angry with you.”

The dragon sniffed and looked at Sabrina.

“My brows will grow back. I assume, anyway?” She looked at him and he nodded, trying not to laugh.

“Most likely by morning, but the marker may take a bit to wear off,” he replied, hiding his grin.

“No worries. We have sandpaper.” She reached out and touched Bambi on the snout. “You may set fire to anything you want, sweetie.”

“Don’t encourage her.”

Bambi stopped crying and cooed as she crawled into Sabrina’s lap. The vampire cradled her like she would a wounded toddler. “Seems you two have made up.”

“It seems we have.” She gave him a surprised look. Or was that the marker? He couldn’t be certain.

“I would never have pegged you for such a softie.
