Law

Now that Blaze knew about Wolfe’s son, I knew there were too many secrets we were holding onto, and it was time to put them out on the table. I went over to Blaze’s house and knocked on the front door. He swung the door open and looked at me with a grim look on his face.

“What’s up?”

“You busy?” I asked him.

“Nah.”

“Good. Ride with me somewhere.”

“Where we goin’?” he asked.

“Just c’mon and get in the car.”

Once Blaze and I were in the car, I backed out of his driveway and headed toward the cemetery where our mother, father, and brother were all buried. Our shoes trekked along the grassy path to their carved, granite headstones. We both lowered our heads in silence for a few seconds, thinking, praying, and doing whatever else to get our minds right. Truth was, Blaze was all I had left. There were more of us in the ground than there were walking on earth.

“For real, Law, why the fuck you ain’t tell me Wolfe had a kid?” Blaze asked me.

“I should’ve, and that’s on me. But at the time, he didn’t want nobody to know, so I kept his secret.”

“All this time I thought Wolfe never got the opportunity to be a father, and he was all along, before either of us.”

“He looks like him, too.”

He nodded. “Yeah, he does. This shit is just too crazy for me.”

“What do you really think about Indigo?” I asked him.

He shrugged his shoulders as he locked his eyes on Wolfe’s headstone. “I don’t like what she did, but I get why she did it. I’m not gon’ lie, when all this shit first came about, I wanted to wash my hands of all of it, but now that I know what’s up, I’m gon’ ride for my brother, dead or alive.”

I nodded. “There’s certain lines niggas don’t cross, and he fuckin’ crossed it. Now that nigga gotta die. As much as I don’t wanna take this shit on either, especially with Raquel being pregnant and it being the holidays, I’m not going to be satisfied until he’s six-feet under,” I said.

Wolfe loved Indigo and Amare. They were his family; therefore, they were my family and now under my protection. We came from a family that stuck together no matter what. The bond we had was forever. My brother and I both knew that the odds may have been stacked against us, but as long as we continued to put family over everything, we would always come out on top.

“If it ain’t about family, then fuck ‘em,” Blaze agreed.
