Wow! That was pretty cool. I am no longer Smoky the Yorkie; Iâm Remington the Beagle! Wait till I tell Rudy about this one. Here he comes!
âHey, Rudy! Do you remember me?â
âRemember you? What are you, nuts? I was just here yesterday. If you recall, I chased that rabbit right back to where she came from.â
âYou shouldnât chase Sophie, sheâs my friend.â
âFriends with a rabbit? You are nuts.â
âI donât think Iâm crazy, but I have to admit that I had another one of those episodes.â
âOh my! What was it this time?â
âI went all the way to New Guinea, and from there to the Philippines. I went into the body of a very little dog and I found another human soul mate by the name of Bill. It was jungle where we lived.
âI was a Yorkshire terrier, which is very different from a beagle, or a sled dog, or a shepherd dog. I was very smallâonly about four pounds, and I had long silky hair. Although I was small in stature, I was strong in character.â
I did some big things as a little dog.
âI learned a lot from living life as a Yorkie in a jungle with a war going on. None of us knew from one minute to the next if we would live to see another day. Thatâs a lot of stress to put on a person or a little dog.
âBill and I had a passion for doing tricks because we knew when others were watching our shenanigans, they were laughing and enjoying themselves. For a period of time, they were back home in a sense. Seeing the guys happy was our reward; it was beautiful.
âOnce again, Rudy, Iâm trying to figure out what I was meant to learn here as well as why me. Was it the importance of the dog-human bond? Smoky was very obedient, and I know obedience is a virtue. Maybe that was my lesson hereâto be obedient.â
âNot sure, Remington. I think you will just have to figure it out yourself. You may be dozing in the sun out here in the yard one day and it will just come to you. Itâs a lot of knowledge you are accumulating through the lives of these extraordinary dogs, and with knowledge comes responsibility. There could be some very interesting things in your future, but not even Who knows what that might be.â
âYouâre a big help, Rudy.â

The next day, I was sniffing around the yard searching for a rabbit scent. I wanted to know if my friend Sophie was still around. I was behind the woodpile, and all I could smell was chipmunk, or maybe it was red squirrel, when all of a sudden, voila! There was Sophie.
âHey, Sophie!â
âHi ya, Remi.â
âWhat are you doing here behind the woodpile, Sophie?â
âIâm trying to avoid that big turtle who lives in the backwater across the street. I saw him crossing the road a little while ago. Heâs always after me to race him.â
âWhy in the world would he want to race you? You would win hands down.
