Chapter 9

“You did what?” Ehmhy asked, his startled gaze focused on Medif. He was so taken aback that Medif returned his brother’s stare in surprise.

“Brother, did you not tell me...”

“You are an idiot! I told you to use your brain that the gods gifted you with between your ears. It was clear to everyone except you that you were already half-bonded with Natee. We knew the first time we saw you two together that the bond was starting. Since then, Geree has been trying to encourage the relationship. What I said was merely to give you the push you needed to realize that yourself. I did not think you would attempt a bond with another female,” he snarled.

“What is going on out here?” Geree whispered fiercely, her dark curls in a wild tousle around her shoulders as she glared at them and shut the door to the room that she shared with Ehmhy. “You two are going to wake the fashix before they’re ready, and then I’m going to strangle the both of you!”

Ehmhy swung a frustrated arm in Medif’s direction but lowered his voice. “My brother decided to engage another female instead of meeting with Natty, and then was caught at it when Natty came to the hotel to return our dish.” Ehmhy held up the plate in question that Medif had barely been able to retrieve from the front desk on his way up to the room. The female’s expression turned dark as she listened to how Medif had been lured into dining with the female and her quick insistence on mating.

At last, Geree held up a hand as if she couldn’t listen to another word. “Okay,” she drew out slowly. “Medif, you’re a fucking idiot. Why would you blow Natty off for some trick you met in the hall... and for what? You admitted that Natty is the only woman you’re comfortable talking to. That should’ve told you something, genius. You’ve got some major groveling coming your way. Dammit! And everything was going so well too! At least it was just breakfast. I’m sure she’ll forgive him...”

“That is not all,” Ehmhy growled, glaring at Medif.

Geree turned to scowl at him too. “What else is there?”

Medif flattened his ears defensively against the dual frowns. He knew he erred, but their reaction wasn’t helping. He considered refusing to say anything more until Ehmhy’s eyes narrowed and glittered at him in an unmistakable warning. If he didn’t tell her, his brother wouldn’t be tactful in how he informed his mate of what occurred in the restaurant.

With a resentful grimace, baring his teeth slightly at Ehmhy, Medif reluctantly filled Geree in. “When Natee came in, the female, Hea—”

“We won’t be speaking her name,” Geree growled with enough force that he had to scramble to reorder his thoughts.

“The female had crawled into my lap, uninvited, and pressed her body and mouth on me. I was trying to remove myself from beneath her without hurting her, but Natee witnessed the embrace,” Medif admitted miserably.
