“Cagney is being reviewed,” Jonathan says, drawing the word

destroying property. As Doctor Cagney was the man responsible

a way to get you out myself. Cagney"s got to have plenty of

connections after being the head honcho at PsyCo for so long, and

he"s not going to go anywhere without a fight. Especially not with

the prospect of war so close.”

“Do you really think so?”

Sam shakes his head. “The truce can"t hold. Russia"s too

hungry and EuroCo"s been doing a shit job of holding onto its

borders. The Central Asians are much more organized, as

dictatorships go.”

“You mean ruthless.”

“Yeah. I don"t mean it as a compliment, Jonnie, but that"s

what worked in South America. Brazil stepped in, took charge,

and killed any challengers. The only reason the US has survived at

all is because of our stores of technology and the fact that the

Canadians are pretty „live and let live." Otherwise we"d be fucked.

Hell, Mexico is marching south as we speak, and we"re too isolated

to help out anyone other than Cuba.”

“I"m having a mental parade right now, you bastard, and I

refuse to let you rain on it,” Jonathan says crossly. “Patience is

gone. Cagney is in trouble. I know that you"re alive, and I pointed

Sergeant Banks in the right direction… things are looking up from

my perspective.”

“Yeah, I looked pretty good, huh.” Sam"s voice is satisfyingly

smug.
