Chapter Seventeen

There was so much going on in my head when I woke up the next morning that it was hard to contain. Secrets that had been buried for half my life just reared their ugly heads. I can’t believe that fucking bitch roofied me and slipped me a goddamn Viagra! I knew Tara was capable of a lot of things, but rape? Because ultimately that’s what it was. I was raped by Tess’s sister, and her accomplice Rosalie slipped me the drugs. There was a part of me that hated how I talked to Scales last night. I knew there were things going on in the background that he couldn’t voice out loud in front of our other brothers. He was a very private man, but there was no mistaking the shame in his eyes when his wife revealed her dirty little secret. Rosalie had always been trouble. Hell, that relationship was toxic from the very beginning, but he was determined to stay with her, despite how much she tried to control his life because of the responsibilities he had outside the club.

My heart rate picked up when I looked down at the beautiful woman sleeping next to me. Tess’s brown hair was fanned out on her pillow, her eyes peacefully closed as a cute little snore whistled from her nose. I couldn’t help myself. I had to lean in and kiss my Sleeping Beauty and get her up for the morning. We were all supposed to go to the lawyer’s office today and find out what Francie left us in her will. I was still flabbergasted that she wanted to leave me anything at all. I always thought of her as family, but I wasn’t blood. I didn’t deserve to inherit anything.

Tess’s eyes began to flutter, then they slowly opened, revealing those big doe eyes that I loved so much.

“Hey,” she whispered, her voice a little croaky after just waking up.

“Hey,” I murmured back, bending down to kiss her again.

“Wait!” She covered her mouth. “I got morning breath!”

I couldn’t contain my laughter. I didn’t give two shits about morning breath, bedhead, or if she needed to take a shower in the morning. This was how I wanted to wake up every day. With her in my bed, staring me in the eyes with all the beauty a woman could possess. She was as intoxicating as the day I met her, as unforgettable as the day she left, and as mesmerizing as the day she returned to me. I wasn’t going to let her go again. There was nothing and no one that was ever going to take my Tess away from me.

“I don’t care about that, Tess. Now kiss me, woman, we have twenty years of morning breath kisses to make up for.” My lips touched down on hers, and I felt her soft moans whisper against the cusp of her pout. Her hands instinctively wrapped around my torso, fingernails scraping along my back as she tried to pull me on top of her.
