Joey was taken aback by the sudden rush of relief that raced through her when she learned it hadn't been Sam that Maria had left with that night. Everything he said was the truth. Until that very moment, she hadn't realized how much she wanted to believe in him. It shocked her to realize that deep down; she had already known he wasn't involved. They had stayed at the bar for another hour, talking to several of the servers that had been working that night. As they did when Joey had spoken to them days before, all said they saw nothing.

So now they knew for certain. Maria had gone to the bar that night to meet with Sam but ended up leaving with another. After that point, she vanished. The question now was, who was this demon? All the evidence pointed to the slave auctions. Whoever this guy was, he dealt with them and Maria was now another victim. Something felt off though, Joey couldn't quite put her finger off it, she just knew something wasn't adding up.

Why did Maria want to meet with Sam that night? Even Sam didn't know the answer to that question. When asked, in typical Sam style, his answers were short or nonexistent.

They left the bar, and Sam did that flashy thing of his again. He wrapped her in his arms, told her to hold on, then her world flipped upside down. Man, she hated that and wondered how the hell he could do that all the time without tossing his cookies. Sam, of course, chuckled, and after he made sure she would not puke all over everything, he left her telling her he'll be back.
