Thus began the on-line investigation into the murder of Mark Hollbeck.

The figure in the shabby raincoat was not the only detective on the case. Over the next few weeks Rog was questioned by almost every stock character out of detective fiction, both print and media. It was all a puppet show, of course. None of these constructs were real. All were various disguises of DataSpace, itself an Artificial Intelligence.
