Chapter 12
Liam was still smiling as he set the tray on the desk.
I ignored him, walking in and setting the tray on the desk. I poured two cups of tea, adding sugar to mine. I looked at Liam, âHow do you take it?â
âBlack, please.â
I handed him his tea and then went over to the wall unit, lifted the door, and pulled out a bottle of Bushmillâs. I added some to both of our drinks and set the bottle back on the desk.
I nodded at the plate of sandwiches. âHelp yourself to sandwiches too. Iâm not sure what kind they are,â I placed one on a small plate for myself.
Liam took one, and we both sat there eating. Mine was tuna. Not my favorite, but I hadnât realized how hungry I was. I lifted the guestlist Iâd given Liam. âMay I?â
He nodded. âIâve only glanced at it. Do you have any idea how many are out of town?â He finished his first sandwich and took another one off the plate.
I took the list and started looking through it. âI printed off the list with everyoneâs address and phone numbers, so youâll be able to tell. There are a few of them staying here. Those who arenât may be housed with friends or relatives.â
He handed me a pen. âCan you mark who those are?â
âSure.â I started looking at the list.
Liamâs phone buzzed, and he looked at it, then made a note in his notebook.
âWhat time was dinner finished?â
I thought about it for a few seconds before answering, âMaybe around half-past eight? Nine at the latest?â I finished the last page and handed the list back to Liam, explaining my system.
âI put checkmarks next to those staying at the house and stars next to my siblings, who are here just for the night. There are six listed from out of town that Iâm not sure about. My grandparents, Aunt Agatha and Mr. and Mrs. Webster, are all here. Mum may know where the others are staying.â I sat back in the chair, stretching a little to stay awake.
He looked at his watch and groaned. âAny suggestions on where I can sleep tonight rather than making the drive back to Ballyquicken?â
My head snapped up, and I grinned.
He grinned back at me. âLet me rephrase that. Is there a hotel or pub that offers guest accommodations in town?â
I stopped myself from fanning my heated face, âNot at this time of night. However, you can stay here. We have plenty of room.â
âAre you sure it wonât be a problem?â
âMum expected a sizeable amount of people, so Iâm sure she wonât mind.â I placed my teacup and plate on the tray and said, âDo you have any further questions?â
Just then, Liamâs phone rang. He looked at it and said, âExcuse me.â
âFitzgerald.â
He listened for a minute. âThanks, Gary. Iâll be staying here at the Quinn home, so we can go over this all tomorrow when you get here.â He discontinued the call and sat back in his chair.
âSo, Detective Fitzgerald, are we done here?â Just then, I yawned, quickly covering my mouth.
