Three hours later, the sale was still in full swing. It was clear that Rosie’s help advertising the sale online had gone a long way to getting people to come out; one elderly gentleman had even come all the way from Huntsville to scoop himself a bargain. They had all been rushed off their feet all day, which was the best possible way the whole thing could have gone.

Rosie found herself helping Ben to rearrange the things that were taking up space in almost-empty cartons, displaying them on a card table near the door at the front of the store. They worked quickly and deftly, not just because they were used to doing it day in and day out, but also because they actually worked pretty well together. As Rosie handed him the last four bottles of some kind of scent used to mask human smells that she didn’t want to know too much about, Rosie remembered the wine bottles in the cellar at the Plantation.

“So I noticed that in her diary, Moira didn’t mention the wine that they used to make at Pineview.” She pushed the empty box under the table with her foot, because they’d been keeping them for folks to carry their purchases with. “Was she not very involved with it all?”

“Ohhh.” His smile was instantly warm, like hot chocolate. “She was involved alright. It was her recipe, and she’s the only one who knew it! She told old General Beaufort Moss that she’d oversee the process for a cut of the profits of any cellar-door sales.” He chuckled admiringly. “Very entrepreneurial woman, Mrs. Kelly.”

Rosie smirked. So that explained the wine bottles at Fox Cottage in her vision. But had the wine started there, or at Pineview itself?

“Did they sell a lot of it?” she asked, genuinely curious.

“A fair bit. But most of it was laid in the cellar for the family’s consumption. Actually, those bottles you saw the other day are still full. They haven’t been opened in over two hundred years.”

“That’s incredible,” Rosie breathed, awestruck. “They must be worth a fortune!”

“For the nostalgic factor, sure,” Ben shrugged. “But I bet the wine tastes like pure vinegar by now! Not that it stops some people,” he added darkly.

The door to the stop opened.

“Speaking of vinegar,” Rosie said dryly.

“What do you want?” Tammy asked, her voice so thick with uncharacteristic hostility that Declan turned to look—and then immediately bristled.

Sheriff Holt sauntered into the room, lifting one hand to remove the mirrored Aviator sunglasses. It definitely wasn’t bright enough out for him to even be wearing them in the first place. Rosie bit back a scoff in favor of gritting her teeth together. She didn’t know what he was even doing here, but it sure as shit wasn’t going to be a pleasant social call.

He approached Tammy at the counter, tucking his glasses in his shirt pocket, before he leaned the heel of his hand on the counter itself and looked patronizingly down at Tammy.
