Dear Dustin

Inmate #32475,

Hi. I know I’ve already written my daily email, but I need you. It’s days like this that I wish I had a friend. You are the first person to not overlook and dismiss me. I know I am meek and undemanding and generally, a pushover. I thought that by me being so helpful and accommodating, everyone would want to have me around. That they would value me and my efforts. The only time I have ever even felt wanted, before I met you, was when I was becoming a nun. My family, they take me for granted and always expect me to be there for them in whatever they need. I can’t think of one time they just wanted to spend time with me. But I love them. They are my family and I’ve always accepted them as they are, even my sinful, obnoxious sister, Emma. Even when she ratted me out about emailing you, I forgave her without her even asking for it.

You may be wondering where I’m going with this, but I’m getting there. I decided I needed to tell my parents about you. I know you will be out soon and I wanted to give them time to come to terms with our relationship. Needless to say, it didn’t go over well. My mom and dad walked out and my sister said that we wouldn’t be accepted by them.

I’m so disappointed in them. I am their daughter and sister, the one who has always been there for them and tolerated all their faults.

I’m sorry to dump this on you. I’m falling in love with you, Dustin. That’s why this hurts so much. I can’t reconcile losing you or them.

Stay safe,

Odilia
