Chapter 11
âQuickly, get back!â I ordered in a harsh whisper.
There were five vampires in total, but I didnât think theyâd caught on to us, so Lenora, Elise, and I zoomed back around the side of the wall as I thought about what the fuck we were going to do next. The men were banging furiously on the front door, and I heard Fangâs angry barks mixed in with all the commotion.
A sense of hot anger rushed through my body at the sight of the vampires outside my home. They were seconds away from breaking down the door, and there was no way I was going to allow that to happen. We couldnât just run away and wait for them to leave, because if they got into the house and found the portal, my plans for world domination would be over. We also had precious cargo with us, so it felt like, whether we stayed hidden or headed for the men, weâd be in a dangerous situation no matter what.
âElise!â one of the men growled in a dirty sneer as the banging came to a brief halt.
â⦠and Lenora, we know youâre in there,â a second vampire added. âWe wonât hurt you, we just want to take you back where you belong. Our master wants to see what youâve been working onâ¦â
The five vampires filled the air with their childish laughter, and it only made me want to kill them more. If Drake wanted my women back, heâd have to pry them from my cold, dead fingers. And that wasnât fucking happening.
I wasnât aware of the vampiresâ abilities, but there was one thing I was certain of: I had to protect my coven.
I also knew we had to sort out the humans Lenora and Elise had hauled over their shoulders, though.
But we had an advantage these men didnât have. Weâd just fed on fresh, human blood, so our strength levels would have increased, whereas these men probably fed on some poor animal, or the rancid mix Drake supplied.
It was like weâd had a coffee made from the strongest arabica and robusta beans, but these men were living off decaf.
I was also faster than them anyway, so if we were smart about it, we could try to ambush these vampires before they broke down the door, and potentially kill off a couple of them before they even knew we were there.
âOkay, hereâs what weâre going to do,â I said just loud enough for Lenora and Elise to hear me. âWeâre going to aim for the guys at the back of the crowd. Snap their necks, rip them limb from limb, I donât care. We just need to make sure we kill them.â
âBut, Jace--â Elise said.
âNo,â I cut her off. âWe cannot allow any of those fucks to enter the house.â
âBut, my sire, these are Drakeâs men,â Lenora whispered. âHe trains them specifically for fights like this, and they were probably given one job, and one job only. To kill you and steal us back.
