Istared at the giant wave blotting out the red horizon, at the water sprouts lining its foamy top, and from the corner of my sight, watched how the water wasn’t receding quite as much, but still, too much of the surf was visible.

And with the roller coaster gone, only its platform with the staked Succuletta remaining, and the carnie game long gone from Vanessa’s rampage, but that popcorn concussion was still around, and the arcade games with those plushie loot, still around, so all in all, most of the boardwalk was still around.

So far.

Still, the smell of fresh salty sea. Of Vanessa and her mango and cream … stupid me.

I turned toward her. “Too slow and we all drown.”

With a wiggle of her ass and slim shoulder, Vanessa swooshed her arms and …

“Voila!” she said and grinned big and white at me.

Instead of a giant wave … several giant water sprouts.

Uh huh.

I raised my eyebrow. “You still want to fight?”

She huffed. Pouted so cute sexy at me.

“I totallies got my pride, you know,” she said, “And I promise not to drown anyone elssse, ‘k?”

But those chocolate eyes going serpent … this close, shit, they were glazed over.

Like Dizzy and her twin sis.

And Sing Sing and her … clone.

I also smelled the stink of serpent, and not just from Vanessa, which honestly, I didn’t mind in a way, but I knew better than to mention any serpent stink. At least for her Succubus serpents were always real sensitive about it. Especially the 16 to 20-something group.

But also, a good way to throw one off and stake her, if I timed the insult right.

I sighed. “Upset I didn’t minion you when I had the chance.”

She giggled, and smirked sinister.

“You’ll sooo regret it,” she said, and drew her jinx slingers.

But she pointed them up, not at me.

Not yet.

I flicked out my last pair of bolt slingers.

“Ready to be staked again?” I said, and with a cockeyed smirk.

She pouted. “You wish. Lassst time I wasn’t ready for your … really. Thisss time. He-he. No cheating. Really.”

“Unless you cheat too,” I said.

She only giggled sinister. “And if I do …” she said, and winked.

When I shoved my bolt slinger against her breasts.

Fired.

She screamed. “FUCK!”

Clutched her chest.

Banged down onto her knees.

“Don’t fuck with me, Vanessa,” I said, “As much as I love flirting with you–”

Crash! All the waterspouts by the horizon collapsed.

Roar.

The ocean pounded the surf. Swallowed the beach. Smashed into the boardwalk, but only squeaking foam reached my feet.

But Vanessa … was crying. Her beautiful face. So much agony. So terrified.

“Vanessa,” I said, “I killed the last Vanessa Velvet, but for old time’s sake, I’ll spare your life. This time.”

Vanessa cried. “I just wanted … I … do you hate me?”

“No, I like you,” I said, “But –”

“Why won’t you minion me?” she said, “I hate serving these asssssholes, but … I’m not good enough. Am I?”

“They slaved you,” I said, “And–”

“I. know,” she said, “I-I can’t even choose my massster. I never can.
