Some objections raised by people about Jesus and violence
Some have claimed that Jesus taught or practised violence in three passages in the Gospels.
Matthew 10:34–36
To promote the claim that Jesus taught violence, these words of Jesus are often quoted:
Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law – your enemies will be the members of your own household’ (Matthew 10:34–36).
