Chapter Fourteen

I kicked off my boots and carried her out into the heated waters. Steam billowed up around us and the first rays of the morning broke out through the clouds.

The moment she slipped from my arms and into the waters, a look of euphoria passed over her face.

"It feels so good." She drummed her fingers across the surface of the water and walked deeper into the hot springs. The ends of her hair were submerged in the water. She didn’t tie up her hair this time.

She was in heat, indeed, and I already knew that no amount of baths would wash away the scent of her rise. The aroma had been there since day one. I should have known before.

After her menses, she would go through another rise. In just a few days, she'd be so fertile that every Alpha within a mile radius would be able to scent her. Her womb would be ready to take an Alpha's seed. The only thing that would satisfy her lust was the knot of an Alpha locked deep inside her.

She peeked over her shoulder at me. "Are you going to watch me wash myself?"

"Yes," I growled.

She sunk neck-deep into the springs, cupped some water into her palms, and let it pour over her face. Her long eyelashes clumped together and her lips were wet. Her little pink tongue parted through her lips as she licked them.

My cock stiffened in my pants. My knot tightened, ready for some type of relief.

She glanced down between my legs and bit her bottom lip.

All I could think about was claiming her right there in the hot springs so that no other Alpha would ever get the chance to know she was an omega in heat.

"It's happened before," she mumbled.

"What has happened before?"

She blushed. "Whatever this is. The first time was a year ago. Right after my seventeenth birthday. It happened about three times that year, maybe four. I told my friend Cai about it once, and she told me it was just cramps and laughed and gave me really strong pain meds. I took the meds, and they helped me sleep through the phase. I might have slept half the day." She giggled. "When it started happening again, I asked her for more meds, but she said she didn't have any. Her boyfriend would have to steal more if I needed them. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble, so I just called out from work and took a lot of cold showers until whatever this is that’s happening to me stopped."

"It's called a heat."

"I'm in heat? You mean like an animal?"

"You're an omega, Karis. Of a different kind. One of a kind. But you're not an animal. Your heat will continue to rise until..."

"Until what?"

"Until it's over or until you're knotted."

Her gaze dropped to my growing erection, and right then, I knew she had figured out what I was talking about. I didn't even have to tell her. Her omega instincts had already figured out exactly what she craved.
