Valentina lay still in her bed, her chest rising and falling under the thin sheets. The rest of the house was quiet, and I felt a wave of relief that the men had things under control. As I sat at my desk, scrolling through files on my laptop, I narrowed my focus on our target – an elusive arms dealer rumored to have connections to the high-ranking Headmaster who ran The Academy in Rome.

Since I wanted to know more about my woman’s past, I was going to grab this guy, and get as much information as I could. Then, I would catch the Headmaster. Once I had Valentina secured, she’d probably stop trying to kill me.

I hoped.

While I possessed a brilliant mind, I lacked charm when it came to women. I had expected her to succumb to my advances by now, like Sloane, and even Tiffany, had at times, but she remained strong-willed. She stood her ground, refusing to give in to my desires.

It made my cock hard, which was a problem. I needed to focus. If I was to take over for Alexie soon, I needed to make sure that the men were ready for the change in power. I wouldn’t tolerate discord and dissent. I also didn’t want to have to clear rank like Viktor had to do.

“Ready to go?” Benedikt slid his gun into the back of his pants.

I nodded and climbed into the black SUV, its leather seats cool against my skin. As Benedikt started the engine, I pulled out the file on our target, Rajesh, from my bag. The streets were bustling with people, but we didn’t bring any backup. Growing up in a rough neighborhood, I learned to hold my own without fear of anyone.

I had eyes and ears all around the city.

“So, word on the street is that Rajesh hops from one safe house to another, every Tuesday.” Benedikt enjoyed talking in the car between work, I observed.

“Perhaps we could intercept him along the way,” I texted. But I quickly discarded the idea, and Benedikt vocalized my thoughts.

I leaned over the map, my finger tracing a specific route that I believed our target would take. “We have to move quickly,” he stated, locking eyes with me. “But it’s clear that our enemy is getting careless.” A mischievous smirk spread across his face, hinting at the satisfaction he would feel when we finally caught our elusive foe.

Me: Let’s catch him at the second location. We can get all the information we need and bury his body on the property right there.

Rajesh was known for burning his safe houses down, and selling the property to a ghost company when he was finished using it. His location has never been compromised.

We arrived on the scene and parked far away. I could see the entire building, which gave us a visual advantage. Once the main guards headed out, we would take everyone outside, working our way in.

Hand signals were now our main form of communication. I shut my phone off along with Benedikt.
