We choose a nondescript pub nearby. I donât plan on paying attention to anyone except Andrei, so neither the decor nor the beer list are on my mind. There are still spots at the bar, so we order and claim two chairs. Iâm a little nervous Andreiâs going to break the chair with his mass, but he doesnât seem concerned, so I let it go.
âWill you be okay on your own for a minute?â he asks, his brow furrowed as if heâs actually concerned with my answer.
âIâm sure I can handle it,â I say.
He leans in and presses a kiss to my lips. The feeling of his mouth against mine lingers even after heâs gone.
Thereâs a commotion at the door, and I turn to see what looks like an entire fraternity coming through the door. I resist the urge to roll my eyes. Iâve dealt with more fuckboys than I care to remember, and I have no interest in dealing with any more.
Theyâve clearly been pre-gaming. A couple of them come to the bar to order pitchers. One stumbles towards me, his hand on the bar as he leans way too far inside my space. I know the kind. He was the best football player in his high school, and he made fun of fat girls but had no problem fucking them when he couldnât find anyone else.
âHey,â he says in what he thinks is a seductive voice. âHow about I give you the night of your life?â
âNot going to happen,â I say, trying to turn away.
âHey,â he says, clearly not prepared to deal with being turned down. âIâm slumming it with you, baby. Who the fuck do you think you are to say no to me?â
Suddenly heâs jerked back so quickly I momentarily worried his shoulder might be dislocated.
âWhat the fuck, man!â says the frat boy before he gets a chance to size Andrei up.
âMy question exactly,â Andrei growls. âI believe the lady said no.â
âDude, look at her,â the frat boy says, obviously thinking he could get Andrei on his side. âWho else would want her? Iâm doing her a favor.â
Andrei leans in to kiss me, sloppy and dirty, with the frat boyâs shirt still bunched in his first. âDoes that answer your question?â he says.
âI donât want any trouble,â the frat boy says, trying so hard to back away heâs about to rip his shirt.
âThen get lost,â Andrei says. âGo find a bland sorority girl to take home and leave the real women to the real men.â
âYeah, sure, âcourse,â the frat boy babbles. Andrei lets go, and the guy scrambles back to his table, where he proceeds to point and glare at us as he talks to his buddies.
Andrei stares at them levelly. Finally, he flexes his bicep and they all go silent. Within minutes, theyâre out the door.
âMy hero,â I say, batting my eyelashes at him.
âSomeone needed to put the little shit in his place,â he growls. âWho knows how many women heâs pulled that with? Needed to be taught some manners.
