“You’re sounding far less grumpy today. Did you finally get laid?” Dylan asks.

I hadn’t even noticed I was whistling when I entered the house we’re starting work on today, finding Dylan sorting out the switches and cables we need for the day.

I shrug and deposit his signature Ice Break and pie on the bench beside him. I felt generous when I passed the bakery on my way in.

“Well, what other reason would you have for being so cheerful on a Monday morning? You’ve been a cranky asshole for weeks, especially just after you get back from Brisbane, but this morning, it’s whistling and you bring me sustenance. Who are you, and what have you done with Jake?” he asks, raising an eyebrow while he opens his iced coffee.

“Just because I am in an okay mood doesn’t mean I got laid. Get your mind out of the gutter,” I say, annoyed that he immediately assumes it’s because I got laid, even though he’s spot on.

It wasn’t the sex but rather who the sex was with.

I have never been one to kiss and tell, though, and I especially won’t be discussing my sex life with the seventeen-year-old apprentice, even after spending the weekend having some of the best sex I’ve ever had. It turns out that Bri is far more flexible than I had ever imagined. I’m pretty sure we christened every surface of that apartment, and it had taken all my strength to leave late yesterday afternoon.

My phone buzzes in my pocket while I set my toolbox down, and I pull it out to check the screen.
