PUPPY ACNE AND IMPETIGO

Puppy acne and impetigo are bacterial infections of the skin in which you see red bumps and bumps filled with pus. Puppy acne occurs on the chin of young dogs (usually under one year), impetigo on the abdomen. Both infections can usually be controlled by washing the affected areas once or twice daily with antibacterial shampoo containing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide soap or by the application of 70% isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to follow soap washing with a thorough rinsing. Although both infections usually clear up as a dog ages, some cases need veterinary attention and antibiotics. If you can’t see an improvement within a week of home treatment or if the condition is getting worse in spite of treatment, see your veterinarian.
