Martha and I will be unable to tell you more than I frankly stated on the phone, concerning certain information you have gleaned from other sources concerning this book and the people behind it. Henry Belk broke a strict confidence in telling you what he did about my relationship to this development.

One of these days, when and if I judge the time to be right, I will write a book on Urantia . . . and I know of no one living who possesses even remotely the knowledge and documentary evidence we possess through our years of close association with the project. For you to attempt such a venture without real acquaintance with the facts would be running a great risk and danger of suits.

I know you sense the possibility of a dramatic story. There are factors involved, however, which you cannot know or anticipate. In the interest of truth, I have never endorsed the book, when questioned, while admitting it contains some remarkable material. Beyond this I will not say at this time.

I sympathize with your desire to explore this subject. You have mentioned Bert Salyer. Why don’t you see what information you can get from him? I will be happy to meet you some time and am not opposed to anything you feel you can do on your own, but you do not have my permission to quote me. Our talk today was in confidence as you pledged and under those stipulations I gave you frank answers.

Dear Henry:

Unhappily, I find you cannot be trusted with a confidence. When we discussed the book URANTIA, I told you of our personal experiences in strict confidence, with the assurance that what I related was for you only.

In a long phone conversation last Monday with Joe Pope, he asked me about these personal experiences which you had passed on to him, and indicated that you were interested in having him write what amounts to an expose of the URANTIA book. I believe he expects you to help finance his investigation and the writing of such a book. He wanted to drive out to Arkansas to get detailed information from Martha and me and even asked me to xerox material we had, and send it to him.
