I stood on the porch of the house, my heart beating fast, my hands in my husband's.

"You don't need to be nervous. Mom is lovely, I know she will love you."

"I know, it's just that…we got married without her meeting me, and we eloped, didn't have the kind of wedding that she wanted. I am just afraid if those things have impacted her opinion of me."

Steve sighed, and made that expression he usually makes when he is tired of me.

"She is not a kid. She is one of the warmest people I know. I mean, look at me, didn't turn out fine?"

I rolled my eyes.

"You are a 6 feet 3 inches mountain of a man who used to fight in cages before you started working as a bouncer in night clubs. Aggression is in your veins, in your DNA. And I am sure you haven't magically inherited these genes."

"Kim, you need to relax, and ring that doorbell. We have been standing out here for ten minutes now."

"Alright, alright," I said, extending my hand and pressing the gold-painted doorbell situated right next to the white, wooden main door to the white suburban house where Steve's mom lived.

The doorbell rang, and I heard the sound of heels.

The door opened, and Steve's mom, Laura, stood before, not looking like she was 46 at all.

I was stunned by how young she looked, and how well she had maintained her body.

Her skin was flawless, it shone, it sparkled and even without touching it, I could feel how smooth it was.

Her hair was blonde, and in the Florida sun, they illuminated and shone like they were on fire.

Her eyes were sparkling blue, her body was curvaceous, and her face was almost 95% similar to that of Scarlett Johansson's.

If I had been nervous before, then presently, I was petrified.

I thought beauty was one thing I could always count on to leave an impression on the other person, but Laura had that in abundance, and without my beauty, I was nothing but a stammering, anti-social nervous wreck that would rather be left alone than spoken to.

"Finally, you guys made it," she said, looking at her son first, and then at me.

I felt scorched by her gaze.

"And you must be the lovely girl who tamed this wild stallion," she smiled, and moved in for a hug.

The hug was short, but in those few seconds, I felt like a gust of wind had hit my face, a wind originating from a beautiful garden with meadows in full bloom.

"Yes, although it was very hard," I replied, and giggled nervously as Laura let go of me.

"Come inside, and then tell me all about your hardship. I am sure Steve must have given you a hard time."

Laura led us inside the house, and as I followed her, I looked at Steve, who gave me a warm smile of assurance.

The house was neither too big nor small, it was just the right size.

The living room was all white even from within, there was a massive bookshelf situated at the far side of the room.
