17. Chocolate Pretzels

These chocolate pretzels are perfect for a children’s get-together party!

Makes: 8 servings

Prep: 2 hrs. 10 mins

Cook: 10 mins

Ingredients:

1 package active dry yeast

1 cup warm water

1 tbsp. brown sugar

2 ½ cups bread flour

¾ cup cocoa

½ cup cold milk

2 tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into 1 inch pieces, at room temperature, plus more for greasing

2 tsp salt

¾ cups white chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 500 F.

Into a stand mixer, add in the warm water. Sprinkle on the yeast

Add in the brown sugar. Mix thoroughly and allow to bloom until foamy. This should take about 5 minutes.

Add in the flour, cocoa, butter, salt, and milk, and continue stirring. On low speed, begin kneading the dough for a minute or until it forms a smooth ball.

Add in the chocolate chips & continue kneading until the dough become pliant – about 5 minutes.

In a lightly greased bowl, place dough and cover with saran wrap. Set away to rise in a warm area for 90 minutes, until double.

Divide into 8 portions and roll out into desired shape – knots, buns, or sticks.

Arrange on 2 lined baking trays about 2 inches apart.

Allow to rise for 30 more minutes.

Bake for 8-10 minutes until crispy!

Serve warm!
