CHAPTER 20

The Betrayal

TODAY MARKED ONE YEAR since the seven follower’s last met with the Lord at Mt. Mervasis. Everyone is in attendance, though there is no cordial greeting as the delineation of factions is apparent. They assume their positions around the table and with swiftness the bright light of the Lord appears and speaks.

“My loyal and steadfast followers, today marks one year since we last met. With time, I am hopeful that each day has made you ever the wiser and vigilant. You are now closer to walking by my side and ushering in a new hope and universal accord.

“However, my children, I sense something is amiss. The energy amongst you is overwhelming, though I sense two distinct sources of it. I do not feel solidarity. I feel separation and dissension. Whose voice shall challenge my assertions?”

“My Lord, your assertions are correct.” said Madalah. “I, Recapolis, and Dekbar understand your true vision and purpose for our people. To unite the people under one accord and one word. That word is in the gospel from which you produced the verses to help guide us in your divine wisdom.”

“My dear brother Madalah, your words flow like the precious water that refreshes our thirst.” said Derlamicus. “My Lord, the lack of solidarity and apparent separation is a result of our three brothers losing patience with the teachings contained within these verses. They believe that a massive army must be created. This army would strong arm those that do not believe and make them fervent followers of your word and your Gospel by excessive use of force, or by any other necessary means. Six months ago, they abandoned these verses that I now hold in my hands. Cartus, Eutysus, Abder, and I did not agree with their interpretation of your word.”

“My Lord, I believe abandoned is not the proper portrayal of our intentions,” said Madalah. “I and my two worthy brothers to the right of me realized the intent of your lesson well before our other brethren at this table. We were no longer hindered by misunderstanding; we extolled your divine guidance.”

“Derlamicus, the verse that was given to thee, please read it.” asked the Lord.

“Yes, my Lord.” said Derlamicus as he pulls out his verse and separates it from the others.

“Bountiful is the spirit that transgresses beyond the boundaries of depravity. Blessed is the man that sows the seeds of his eyes to widen the passage to his heart.”

“Cartus, what does your verse day?” asked the Lord

After a brief pause. “My Lord, it says the same thing as brother Derlamicus just read.”

“Eutysus, does your verse render anything differently?” asked the Lord.

“No, my Lord, it says exactly the same.”

“What say you, Abder? Is your verse different from what the others have read?”

“My Lord, my verse is the same word for word.”

“Derlamicus, have you studied the verses given you by your other three brothers?” asked the Lord.

“I have not. I only held them in my safe keeping till we all met once again.”

“Lay them out on this table.
