FOOD FOR FABULOUS HAIR

As with all aspects of our outer beauty, the place to start on the Tao to beautiful hair is diet. According to Chinese teaching, healthy kidneys and lungs are the foundations of beautiful hair. If your hair is dull, lifeless, thin, or prone to premature graying, your kidneys may not be functioning optimally, or your chi may be off balance. Instead of experimenting with endless shampoos and treatments to bring about healthy, shining hair, you need to restore the balance of your blood chi. If you’ve begun to follow the detoxification and nutritional suggestions in Chapter 4, you may already be seeing some improvement in the condition of your hair and scalp.

I have not broken this chapter down into sections specifically for normal, dry, or oily hair, dandruff, split ends, premature graying, or hair loss. All of these problems—except for overprocessing and chemical damage—stem from the same source: the body’s state of imbalance.

A general regimen of kidney-friendly foods and herbs is the first step to rejuvenated, resplendent hair. If the kidneys are healthy, then the lungs and large intestine are healthy … and the hair will show it.

Listed below are foods we should all include in our diets.
