“Great, my friend Margo. I’ll call her up for a copy of the report. I am beginning to get an idea who just might have been behind Peggy’s murder and your car accident.”

“Really?” Asked Janet.

“Yes, but I need to interview a few people first. I will let you know.”

“I just can’t wait for all of this to be over.” Janet said as her head sank into her folded arms on the desk.

It was Sunday morning, and today there weren’t any routes running, Tim Sr. was home and he’d be watching the grandkids. Janet was looking forward to a cup of coffee, a quick glance through the newspaper and then some quality time with her little green children poking their heads through the soil. She poured the water into the back of her coffee maker and waited for it to finish dripping through.

Her father walked in. He had been up earlier and had already started working in the garden. He loved being outside with his precious plants. Joe would spend every waking minute raking, digging, and weeding from the first warm days of spring to the first frost of winter.

“It’s still too early to set out the tomatoes and peppers. I got half the cabbage plants out, and all the peas, lettuce, radishes, and I was going to put out the onion sets next.” Announced Joe.

“Coffee is almost ready” said Janet. “Why don’t you take a break for now?”

“Good idea. I’ll go wash my hands”. He went into the bathroom to use the sink.

As Janet placed her hand on the coffee carafe to pour her and her dad coffee she heard a popping noise. ‘Was that gunshots’ Janet wondered. She looked around and heard more popping. She dropped quickly to the floor. ‘Ouch, that must be what they mean by that old cliché about the bigger you are the harder you fall.’

She crawled on her stomach toward the living room occasionally lifting up her head trying to see if any stray bullets had hit anywhere. When she finally passed through the kitchen and got to the living room. ‘I really need to mop this floor.’ she thought; the little black Angora rabbit that her grandchildren had left with her was hopping up and down on a large piece of bubble wrap which was lying on the floor.

“You wascal wabbit! If you weren’t the love of my grandkid’s life you’d be hasenpfeffer!”

Just then Janet’s father walked into the room. “Who are you talking to?” He asked.

“That stinking rabbit.”

“What did he do?” Joe asked.

“Never mind, just help me get up.” Janet growled. She rolled on to her side and with a considerable effort finally made it to her knees and then to her feet. ‘I need to start running with Danielle before I end up needing a forklift.’ Janet thought.
