TRANSITIONING TO ONE NAP WITH MULTIPLES

Just as your twins may walk at different times or crawl at different times, they may very well transition to one nap at different times—especially if Toddler A, for instance, has started sleeping through the night before Toddler B. This means that you will have two different schedules, with Toddler B napping in the morning while Toddler A is not. You may want to keep Toddler B’s morning nap to forty-five minutes to keep the afternoon naps somewhat close to each other in terms of timing. Toddler A may also nap longer in the afternoon, and you may need to wake her up within thirty minutes of Toddler B, or by 4:00–4:30 p.m.

You may need a third backup nap during nap coaching if your toddlers are solidly on one afternoon nap but it’s not long enough to make it to bedtime without being overtired. Your end goal is to have both toddlers well fed and ready for bed between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. regardless of how different their naps were during the day.
