RECOGNIZING OTHER KEY DEMONIC TARGETS
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
—EZEKIEL 36:25, KJV
IN THE PENTATEUCH (the first five books of the Bible), especially in the Books of Leviticus and Numbers, we find many references to removing certain body parts during animal sacrifices and presenting them as a separate offering to God. For many years I overlooked such verses, assuming those passages were outlining a requirement of the Law and nothing more. But as I looked further into what I call “deeper deliverance,” I began to hear the Holy Spirit whisper in my ear that I needed to pay closer attention to parts of the body that are often overlooked.
In this chapter we will look at several more body parts demons frequently target that are not necessarily entrances or exits. Though there may be some minor overlap, I have singled out these body parts because they have come up often enough during deliverance sessions that I believe they warrant special attention .
THE TONGUE
Although the tongue is part of the mouth area, I wanted to address it separately because the Bible has a great deal to say about this part of the body. There’s even a whole chapter in the Book of James dedicated to it (James 3). The Bible says all of hell is set on fire by the tongue (James 3:6), therefore making it a lethal body part. The demons attached to the tongue manifest themselves in gossip, homosexuality and lesbianism (which both involve oral sex), lying, cursing, boasting, exaggerating, filthy talk, negative talk, ghetto street talk, the desire to wear tongue rings, backbiting, and the like.
An unrestrained tongue is a demonic playground because demons love to talk, especially during deliverance sessions. They will make it seem as though the person needs to share past experiences or to have someone listen to him. Such tactics are an attempt to get the minister to function more as a counselor (demons enjoy counseling sessions) rather than in the boldness of kingdom deliverance. I repeat: demons love to speak. So do people who spent most of their lives feeling voiceless and now seek to manipulate others through their words.
On one occasion I was called into my office and asked to conduct a deliverance session on someone who wanted to be free from homosexuality. This person happens to be a mature Christian with ministry experience. I reluctantly agreed, as homosexuality has proven to be a tough demon to handle. In addition to casting out demons, there must be mind renewal, counseling, and personal discipline on the part of the person seeking freedom. From the beginning of the session, it was obvious that this case was different, as I felt an unusual measure of wisdom to target my deliverance prayers with more precision.
I began to direct my attention to the tongue and call out demons associated with oral sex and other inappropriate uses of the tongue.
