Chapter Eight:
Publishing Articles And Using Group Discussions
In the previous two chapters, we went over the example phone call and how that should lead to getting the follow-up conversation going. Then we went over the posting system, specifically, what you should post, how to look over the analytics, and how to decide what kind of content you should put out there to make sure that what you are posting is relevant information for your network.
In this chapter, weâre going to go over two other important components. One is publishing articles, and two is starting discussions in the groups that you chose to join.
People frequently ask me, âHow often should I publish an article to LinkedIn?â The important aspect of this is to be consistent. I prefer posting one article per week. I want to clarify that publishing an article is different than making a simple post like we discussed previously.
You can publish articles through a feature called LinkedIn Publisher, which is basically a blog section within your own LinkedIn account. For example, if I go to My Profile, under the recent activity it will actually break down my posts into general posts or into articles. Iâve written close to 300 articles. If I click on this, it will bring up all the articles that I have written. Every article that I write is based around positivity, enlightenment, and ways to connect. These are things that everyone basically can relate to.
I suggest you do the same.
Letâs walk through how to do this. Make sure you are on your âHomeâ page, it will say âHomeâ at the top. One of the options is to âWrite An Articleâ. When you click on that, it will take you to LinkedIn Publishing. Youâre going to upload a background photo, a heading, and then some content.
The photo you use can be something that you have saved, and the content might be something you have written elsewhere or it can be something brand new. First find a photo that represents what you want to write about.
One particular post I made had to do with a quote that I loved, and it was this:
âAlways listen to your heart because even though itâs on your left side, itâs always right.â
As I mentioned, you will want to create a headline, and it needs to grab attention. Boring headlines are unforgivable because people wonât read the rest of your article. An example of this could be âThe Most Important Thing You Could Ever Listen Toâ. It inspires curiosity, and thatâs what you want a headline to accomplish.
Once you have a headline, then you create your content. In this post, I started with a quote. You donât have to start that way, but itâs a great way to get at the main point of your article.
Here is the rest of content I wrote for this:
âThis is what I have foundâone of the most important things one can do is listen to their heart. I was constantly listening to the noise and chatter in my head.
