Step 2: A “judgment machine” regression equation was created for each judge using the approach described above.

Step 3: The judgment machine was used to generate a prediction of what judgment the expert would have come up with. This is referred to as the Machine-Generated Judgment. Note that at this stage there are two different judgments for each expert for each prediction made: (1) The actual judgment, and (2) the machine-generated judgment.

Step 4: The performances of both the expert and the judgment machine were determined, typically by computing the correlation between the expert’s judgment and the truth (when it became available), and the machine-generated judgment and the truth, respectively.
