I am the Virgin Mary,
mother of the Baby Jesus.
You are poor and needy,
bring your child to me.

"Is this getting creepy or what?" Max folded his arms.
"He is not talking about our Mary," Uwe asked. "right?"
"Of course not," Max's antagonism was here to stay. "Can't you see it says, Virgin Mary?"
"Religious text, Professor?" Uwe asked.
âNot really,â Anne said. âRemember what I told you about Mapestries, officer Uwe?â
âYes. They are puzzles made to sound one way to the common ear but a whole different way to a folklorist.â
âExactly. The words are undoubtedly religious, and I sure know a biblical version or two that would have similar phrasing."
"But?" Uwe said, leaving Max perplexed.
"Give me your phone, please," Anne stretched out her hand. She did it sideways without looking at him to avoid Max's suspicions.
Uwe handed it to her. She angled her grip lower toward her midsection, hiding the screen from Max. The first thing she did was see if Uwe replied to her message.
He didn't.
She took a deep breath and resisted looking at him. Was it possible he didn't want to tell her something?
Anyway, that wasn't the reason she asked for the phone. She stood up and typed the Killer's exact message into Google search.
Max bowed forward, squinting harder, while Uwe only lowered his neck.
"Same text, right?" Anne said to Max.
Max nodded, waiting for her to press search. Uwe cluelessly anticipated the magic.
"I'm not only following the Killer's code but showing you how folklore and fairytales are cut so deep into our psyches, traditions, and core beliefs," Anne said.
Max smirked, belittling her. "Don't make this about yourself, professor. Just click search."
Anne clicked.
I am the Virgin Mary,
mother of the Baby Jesus.
You are poor and needy,
bring your child to me.
