The Hood Keeper
Chapter 8
Stan and I started going out every couple of days looking for a “vic'” and always found one. We had a couple different ways we would handle someone when we went out, always after dark. Anyone was fair game, except older ladies and people who lived in our ‘hood. If we caught an older man walking the streets by himself Stan would usually sneak up from behind and choke him to sleep while I ripped his pockets and took his jewelry. If there was any resistance the attack would be vicious.
It was different if we spotted a young couple or someone our age. We walked up on them and asked for the time. When they looked at their watches, one of us snatched their jewelry off their neck while we stood firm, hoping they would try to defend themselves. Once the jewelry was in our hand they would have to fight us to get it back, something neither of us minded doing.
We always went to Flatbush immediately afterwards and split whatever dough we got from the “lick”. We would stay in Flatbush after each incident until we thought it was safe to return to our ‘hood. We spent most of our bread on getting fly and it wasn't unusual for us to catch a flick after we left the pawn shop. It was something we did until mid-July.
We began to notice more cops were riding around in our ‘hood at night. One day after catching a nice “lick” and splitting the dough, we decided to get in the crack game. Crack was becoming the hustle of choice, so we decided to test the hustle. We found out niggas in our ‘hood was buying drugs from uptown Manhattan, so this is where we went.
Neither one of us knew anything about the drug game so we both purchased about $300 worth of crack already packaged in little plastic vials. It was $10 per vial but we sold them in Brooklyn for $20 a pop. We both sold out the first day. Taking the trip uptown to 145th St. became a daily routine. There was always a bunch of niggas out on the street selling Crack like it was legal. You could find it on any and every block without any problem. We knew whatever we bought we were going to double in one day. We were getting a lot more change compared to the robberies we were committing.
By the end of August we were both spending about $500 a day to purchase a half ounce of raw cocaine. We found someone in our ‘hood who knew how to cook the cocaine and turn it into crack. Once it was cooked we were able to make about $2000 in one day. Selling crack was something “mad” niggas, and even a couple of chicks were doing to survive.
One day we gave someone drugs to borrow their car for a couple of hours to drive uptown. We were tired of taking the long train ride.
