Chapter Six

I spent the rest of the weekend overanalyzing what Westley said at dinner. Sure, we both admitted to still caring about each other when we had our serious talk on Friday, but I didn’t anticipate those words coming out of his mouth.

I always missed being home.

There was something about it. It wasn’t just the words. It was the way he looked at me, the way our eyes connected at that moment. It made me wonder if he…

Does he still feel that way about me?

It’s not possible that he’s expecting to get back together with me, is it? With everything we’ve been through, and the fact that we literally just said we were going to try to be friends again, is he wanting more? I get it, I do, because I still have feelings for him, despite my attitude since his return.

It’s the only way to protect myself. I can’t handle another round of the pain from before.

Westley graduated from college less than a month ago. He’s been here for about a week. I don’t have a clue what his plans are for the future. Is his stay in Bluecastle only for the summer, or will it be permanent? There’s also the chance that he’s going to stay here for the month to help with the inn and then leave for a job in another state. He did leave the state once. What’s stopping him from doing it again?

I can’t put my heart on the line for someone when I don’t even know anything about their current life.

On Monday morning, I start the day off by making all the beds. I had picked up all the pillows yesterday, including some extra throw pillows for the furniture throughout the inn. With every little thing that gets accomplished, I feel like this project is coming together beautifully.

After I finish the last room, I stand back to appreciate how lovely these rooms are turning out. All they need is just a little bit more charm to make them complete. These walls are bare aside from the vintage wallpaper we added last month. It’s time to start hanging things up.

Over the last year, my parents and I have picked out several pieces for the wall from flea markets and estate sales. Also, several residents of Bluecastle have donated various decor items to fit the Victorian style. I think the majority of the boxes are in the garage out back, with a couple that might be in the basement at home. It would probably be a good idea for me to get everything out tonight when I get home so that I can sort it and bring some of it tomorrow.

I get my phone out of my pocket to snap a quick photo of the room so I can post an update on the inn’s social media. Our followers love seeing these little snapshots.

I need to get back downstairs to reply to emails, so I leave the room. As I’m typing up the post, I crash into a wall of muscle and nearly fall down.
