Claudia looked up from her browser and rubbed her eyes. Of all the ridiculous things she had ever read, this had to be the most outrageous. It was as weird as the white book. It was so transparently an attempt by adults to claim special status for their children (or themselves) without any justification. Was this what Julia Hawthorne believed? Would she have considered Henry, for example, to be one of these Indigo children? He, after all, fit some of the description. So did a lot of people. That did not qualify them all to be world leaders, carving out a new path for all of humanity with their extraordinary perceptions. Claudia didn’t like that The World of the Child referenced the term “Indigo children.” She tried to reassure herself. The book was only a detail in the whole picture of The Hawthorne School. Henry’s happiness and ability to succeed in the Hawthorne environment was really the main thing.

Claudia texted Maggie.

Claudia: Have you ever heard of Indigo children?

Maggie: ???

Maggie: Is it like a brand of clothing?

Claudia: Mentioned in Julia Hawthorne’s book

Maggie: Oh, like I told you, I never read it. My bad!

Claudia: So I looked it up. Indigo children ae supposed to be special people with a mission to lead humanity???

Maggie: Huh. OK …?

Claudia: So you don’t know anything about it?

Maggie: Gee, IDK. Maybe ask Henry’s teacher if you’re curious. That’s what I would do.
